Né à Londres en 1991, Max Bainbridge a étudié les beaux-arts au Chelsea College of Art, où il obtient en 2013 un diplôme en tant que photographe et sculpteur.
Fin 2014, il lance Forest+Found, un studio de création et de recherche sur les matériaux en collaboration avec l’artiste Abigail Booth qui travaille le textile.
Dans le bois brut, Max taille des formes qui prennent vie et deviennent des objets tangibles et ancrés dans l’espace.
En respectant au départ la forme naturelle du bois, il vient façonner, sculpter, utilisant des processus de créations qu’il s’emploie à dévoiler sur l’objet, en prenant bien soin de laisser les marques de fabrication en surface. Chaque pièce raconte alors l’effort physique de la conception, comme ses objets ronds qui rappellent la technique du tournage.
L’artiste s’imprègne des paysages où les essences de bois ont été recueillies pour pouvoir créer une relation entre les objets et leur l’environnement d’origine.
