Born in London in 1991, Max Bainbridge studied fine arts at the Chelsea College of Art, where he earned a degree in 2013 as a photographer and sculptor.
At the end of 2014, he launched Forest+Found, a creative and material research studio in collaboration with the artist Abigail Booth, who works with textiles.
Working with raw wood, Max carves shapes that come to life and become tangible objects anchored in space.
Starting by respecting the natural form of the wood, he then shapes and sculpts it, using creative processes that he seeks to reveal on the surface of the object, taking care to leave the marks of production visible. Each piece thus tells the story of the physical effort involved in its creation, such as his rounded objects that recall the technique of turning.
The artist immerses himself in the landscapes where the wood species were sourced in order to create a relationship between the objects and their original environment.
