Born on January 11, 1972, in the south of France, she lives and works in Aix-en-Provence.
Agnès Domas Krier graduated from the Marseille School of Architecture (ENSA) as a DPLG-certified architect in 1999 and has been working as an independent architect since 2007.
Her architectural practice has mainly focused on collective and individual housing, always within existing buildings. Intervening as an architect in a building means understanding the life and history of the structure, and then layering a new spatial practice onto it. The project weaves new relationships with space and thereby creates a different architectural object. Creating from an existing architecture means having a foundation to rely on, to hold onto, and to move beyond, allowing a new program, new spaces, and new uses to unfold.
In 2014, she discovered weaving through the work of Amy Revier, followed by influences such as Sheila Hicks, Lenore Tawney, Anni Albers, and many others.
Between 2016 and 2021, together with Sébastien Krier, she opened Galerie Ouvrage in the center of Aix-en-Provence, a creative space combining their architecture studio, her weaving workshop, and an exhibition space for French artists and artisans.
“In weaving, I find a parallel with architecture: the preparatory work of defining the structural framework, the strength of materials for the framework of a building or the warp of a weave, the search for proportions, and of course, creation.
The transition from thread to surface, from thread to volume, from thread to space is at the heart of my artistic research. The relationship between warp and weft, as well as the transformation of weft into warp to create another dimension, is a process that fascinates me and that I wish to explore further.”
The works of Agnès Domas Krier have notably been exhibited in Paris as part of the group exhibition Les Trames du Possible, organized by Galerie Amélie Maison d’Art in September 2022.
In 2023, she participated in the International Textile Art Biennial held until August 10, 2023, in Kranj, Slovenia, as well as in the exhibition UNCLASSIFIABLE, a visual project promoted by the association ARTOUT Contemporary Art Ground in Todi, Italy.
