Born in 1968, Ramon Enrich is a Spanish painter and sculptor who lives and works in Igualada.
After studying Fine Arts as well as history, Ramon Enrich entered the art scene when he began exhibiting his work in galleries in Barcelona.
During his training, he traveled to the United States in the late 1980s, visiting painters who influenced him. After receiving a grant, he made contact with the Donald Judd Foundation and later made several visits to David Hockney in Los Angeles, as well as to Ed Ruscha. These relationships continued over time, and throughout his career Ramon Enrich has collaborated with various artists, designers, architects, and writers, including David Carson, Philippe Apeloig, Julian Schnabel, Anatxu Zabalbeascoa, Narcís Comadira, Quim Monzó, and Jean Nouvel.
From the outset, his paintings have proposed a dialogue between architecture and landscape, always with a distinctive and enigmatic atmosphere full of references to Mediterranean culture, and a spatial conception in which color and the design of space seem to belong to neither time nor place.
A painter with a highly personal visual language based on simplicity and a fresh, intelligent perspective on architecture, Ramon Enrich treats the world as a vast architectural choreography in which metaphysical language and typography play leading roles. His work spans many modes of expression—figurative and abstract—yet always with a clearly recognizable syntax. His compositions tend toward an ironic blend of romanticism and essential pragmatism.
Ramon Enrich’s most well-known work consistently explores architectural themes through a scenographic and theatrical lens charged with memory. In his constructed volumes, the use of color and the enigmatic treatment of space take on great importance.
However, his expressive language has gradually become more refined and reduced. He paints large-scale works in which the density of color and the viewpoint suggest a journey that is more psychological than formal. He also engages in research through large canvases focused on typographic themes treated as sculptures.
His paintings are included in numerous international collections, and the artist maintains a regular exhibition schedule with galleries around the world. He is a well-known cultural activist in Catalonia and is currently working on transforming an industrial district into a creative zone for the city of Igualada.
