This pink backless sweater, a cowboy lighting a cigarette, the little black dress worn with strands of pearls, a portrait of a Native American, a group of dancers, this embracing couple… all evoke a déjà vu: a film scene, a photographic pose, the memory of a moment, an emotion…
For De l’Autre Côté, her first exhibition at the Amélie du Chalard gallery in New York, Juliette Lemontey drew her inspiration from images taken from American films in her personal filmography. Each one refers to representations more or less familiar to the collective memory of cinema, without seeking total recognition. At once close and distant, these “freeze frames” resonate with intimate sensations and emotions.
